Tom Hanks Reveals Diabetes Diagnosis to David Letterman

Tom Hanks will soon make headlines again for his sterling talent, as the actor is receiving Oscar buzz for his portrayal of the title character in Captain Phillips.

But the beloved star has been in the news recently for a couple off-screen reasons: First, he was selected for jury duty.

And last night, during an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, he revealed that he's been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.

Responding to the host's comment about how much weight he's lost, Hanks shared what went down during a recent physician appointment.

“My doctor said, ‘Look, if you can weigh as much as you weighed in high school, you will essentially be completely healthy and not have type 2 diabetes,'" Hanks said. "And I said to her, 'Well, I’m gonna have type 2 diabetes.’”

The star added that he has shed many pounds, but there's no way he can get back down to his teenage figure.

Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of this disease.

Other stars afflicted with it include Patti LaBelle, Drew Carey, Sherri Shepherd and Paula Deen.

We wish Hanks the best of luck in his fight against it and we encourage readers to watch the Captain Phillips trailer. This movie looks great.
