Glee to End After Six Seasons, Honor Cory Monteith on Series Finale

Glee to End After Six Seasons, Honor Cory Monteith on Series Finale

The New Directions will belt out their final song in May 2015.

At a television event inside the Paley Center in Los Angeles last night, Glee creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that the series will come to an end after its upcoming sixth season.

He also explained that he and fellow producers will need to write a new conclusion following the tragic death of Cory Monteith in July.

"I always knew how it would end," Murphy said of the final season and how it was meant to be "designed around Rachel and Finn."

"I knew what the last shot was â€" [Monteith] was in it. I knew what the last line was â€" she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we’re figuring that out now."

The musical comedy paid tribute to Monteith last Thursday by killing off the character of Finn Hudson, bringing back a few cast members and having Lea Michele sing a heartbreaking version of "Make You Feel My Love."

Does Murphy have a revised plan in place in light of Cory's sad passing? Yes.

“I have a good idea,” he said. “I’m going to tell the studio and the network [in a week] how after Cory’s unfortunate passing we can end the show that I think is very satisfactory. And kind of in his honor, which I love.”

Glee Season 5 is on hiatus and will return November 7 with an episode titled "A Katy or a Gaga."
