Miley Cyrus on Today: This is My Sexual Peak!

Miley Cyrus on Today: This is My Sexual Peak!

She was up late hosting Saturday Night Live and then up early this morning to speak with Matt Lauer on Today.

But one thing remained the same with Miley Cyrus: her unapologetic response to the controversy generated by her VMA performance, Wrecking Ball video and everything else she's done over the past few weeks.

"It's kind of what I want," Miley told Matt Lauer of all the recent attention. "I'm an artist, so I'm hoping that I get a little attention or my record sales might be a little sketch."

Cyrus also acknowledged that her VMA routine went "exactly as planned" and offered up simple proof why: "It's a month later and we're still talking about it."

Was the 20-year old trying to shock viewers? Yes.

Offend them? No.

"I don't ever really plan to offend people, but sometimes that just happens because I think people, they're not open to what they don't understand," the artist said. "But that's why when I'm singing for my fans, because they're all really young so they understand what I'm doing."

Lauer didn't touch on Miley's Sinear O'Connor feud, but did ask whether this overtly sexual side of Twerking and exposing her nipples is a "phase?"

Not really, Cyrus said, because "I heard when you turn 40, things start to go a little less sexual."

"Don't say that," Lauer replied with a smile, to which Miley added of when she'll put on more clothing:

"Probably around that time, I heard that's when people don't have sex anymore."

Lauer subsequently asked, "Do you know how old I am?"

This is getting VERY awkward. Just go ahead and watch Miley perform "We Can't Stop" on the Today stage:
