The results are in - and Gravity's box office haul is out of this world.
The Sandra Bullock and George Clooney-anchored drama set an October box office record for an opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, raking in $ 55.6 million across 3,575 theaters.
That surpasses the $ 52.6 total of Paranormal Activity in 2011.
With Gravity reviews glowing across the board, the film also marks the highest-grossing debut for both of its stars: Bullock's previous mark was $ 39.9 for The Heat, while Clooney tallied $ 42.9 for Batman & Robin.
Now let's never talk of Batman & Robin again.
Here is a look at the weekend's to five:
- Gravity: $ 55.6 million
- Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2: $ 21.5 million
- Runner Runner: $ 7.6 million
- Prisoners: $ 5.7 million
- Rush: $ 4.4 million
