Charlie Hunnam Left Fifty Shades of Grey Because of Robert Pattinson, Source Says

Charlie Hunnam left the Fifty Shades of Grey movie because of Robert Pattinson, and not because the latter is set to replace him in the project (sorry ladies).

Following the news that the Sons of Anarchy actor exited the project Saturday, sources have cast doubt on the stock "immersive TV schedule" excuse.

"He dropped out of the movie because he didn't want to be typecast," an insider says of Charlie Hunnam leaving Fifty Shades of Grey before filming began.

Specifically, referring to the Twilight star, the source adds, "He didn't want the Robert Pattinson-esque attention that would come along with this role."

Announcing the news, Universal Pictures and Focus Features released a joint statement that said his TV schedule left inadequate time for preparation.

Yet the consensus seems to be that it was about more than that.

"What he was taking on with this movie role was not what Charlie wants in his future career," another source told E! News, calling his exit unsurprising.

"The attention and the pressure was intense. More than anything he hates attention and being in Fifty Shades of Grey would force him to do lots of media."

"That's really not his thing. Charlie doesn't want to be massively famous. Plus, he hates conforming and being told what to do. This role would force him to."

As for Pattinson, he was reportedly EL James' first choice for the role ... which isn't too shocking since 50 Shades evolved from Twilight fan fiction.

And as for Dakota Johnson, who is still set to star as Anastasia Steele, she is reportedly mulling an exit as well, despite the support of the producers.

In any case, who do you think should replace Charlie?
